My great grandmother Ada Cordelia Buchenau Blacker was born February 7, 1853 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Her parents were John Buchenau, born in Germany, and Catherine B. Tyler Buchenau, born in Pennsylvania.
At the age of 18, she married David Lyman Blacker in Wathena, Kansas on February 27, 1871. Shortly afterwards, she moved with her new husband to the Montana Territory.
Her first three children, Muzetta, Lelia Nina and Katherine Rebecca, were all born in the small mining town of Radersburg. The family then re-located to Helena where her last two children, Helen Alice and John David, my grandfather, were born. Her husband passed away in 1911 when Ada was only 40. She lived to be 97 years old, passing away in 1950. She is buried with her mother and three of her daughters in Forestvale Cemetery in Helena.
